At every celebration you usually find that the ‘fizzy stuff’ is served, in either a tulip (flute) shaped glass or a 1920’s Gatsby shallow ‘dish like’ (coupe). To raise your glass to someone is called ‘a toast’.   The glasses are then clinked together, eye contact made and words are repeated – as to who or what you are ‘toasting’.
