3 Unique Engagement Ring Ideas

The engagement ring is probably the most important piece of bridal jewelry you’ll ever need besides the actual wedding ring. As far as can be discerned, the tradition of giving engagement rings dates as far back as ancient Rome, and is the material symbol of a promise for marriage. When most people think of engagement bands, the classically cut diamond ring usually comes to mind. However, more creative alternatives are equally as romantic – after all, diamonds are a tradition, not a rule!

A simple metal band says a lot, despite it’s unassuming appearance. The simplicity itself is elegant, classy, and timeless. This kind of ring is perfect for both men and women of modest tastes and the knot is the perfect visual symbol for the promised wedding ahead of them.

Though the concept of tattoos is nothing new, the idea of branding yourself with an engagement or wedding band (which doesn’t even need to resemble a ring!) is a fairly recent thing. Both tattooing yourself and marrying someone are things that should last forever, and both require much thought before going through with them. Fittingly symbolic, no?

The idea of a string ring is a beautiful one: even if you cannot afford a wedding band, the marriage itself is what really matters. You will, literally and figuratively, tie the knot. Perhaps this concept originated from The Count of Monte Cristo, where a piece of string is used similarly for Mercedes and Edmond’s promise to be wed. Overall, it reminds us that it isn’t the material things that matter.
