The Top 5 Weddings Songs of 2014

With 2014 quickly coming to an end, it’s time to look back at the trends that took the wedding industry by storm. Like every year, there were a few songs that couples simply couldn’t get enough of, that definitely saw their fair share of airtime at weddings. Here are my five favourite wedding songs of the year.

5. “XO” by Beyonce

This song was released at the end of 2013 on Beyonce’s self-titled album. Originally thought to be a love song for her fans, “XO” makes the perfect wedding song with lyrics like “Your love is as bright as ever/Even in the shadows,” and “In the darkest night hour/I’ll search through the crowd/Your face is all that I see.”

4. “Never Seen Anything (Quite Like You)” by The Script

The title of this song is pretty self-explanatory. The Irish Pop band’s love song is about a man telling the woman he loves that he’s never seen anything quite like her in that moment. The lyrics certainly make this a song perfect for a first dance — “And your eyes are in your eyes/And my heart in our hearts/Sometimes words just ain’t enough/For this love that’s more than love.”

3. “All of Me” by John Legend

An obvious choice, John Legend’s career blew to new heights this year, thanks to the release of the ultimate love song. The song was actually released in 2013 on his Love in the Future album, but managed to continue its reign throughout 2014. With Legend pouring his heart out, telling listeners that he loves every single part of his wife and thinks she’s beautiful even when she’s crying, who wouldn’t want to use this song to solidify your vows?

2. “Latch (Acoustic)” by Sam Smith

The original version of this song was released as an uptempo dance anthem with Disclosure last year. Smith included a slowed-down, acoustic version on this debut album, which turned into one of the most popular love songs of the year. The song’s romantic lyrics include: “I’m so encaptured, got me wrapped up in your touch/Feel so enamored, hold me tight within your clutch.”

1. “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran

My favorite wedding song of the year comes from Ed Sheeran’s sophomore album, x. “Thinking Out Loud” has the British singer telling his loved one that he hopes to love her until he’s 70 years old. The romanticism of the song even got Sheeran to engaged in a choreographed dance for the video (perhaps some inspiration for your own first dance?).
